Weather in Croatia: Summer vs Winter

You're planning vacation but want to know more about weather in Croatia? As locals, living here for more then 30 years, we will tell you what to expect.

Whether you prefer winter time or as most people, you come here during spring or summer. That being said, on average we have moderate winters and hot, dry summers.

Winter months in Croatia

During winter, temperature is not a big problem since the lowest it can get is -12°C or 10°F. Even then, it only gets this cold in January or February, although the coast is always warmer than the rest of Croatia, thanks to Mediterranean climate. Remaining winter months temperature is between -2°C (28°F) and 12°C (53°F).

The real problem of weather in Croatia, at least during winter months, is the wind. It is a type of bone-chilling wind which makes it seem even colder. Luckily, this ain't that frequent nor that extreme. The issue is usually apparent only in February and partly in January when low temperature and the bone-chilling wind come together.

Summer months in Croatia

Most people come to Croatia during summer to visit the coast and charming towns while enjoying on the beaches and numerous Adriatic islands. Although first hot days can come as early as May, usually during June the temperature goes up suddenly. It gets between 24°C and 30°C (75°F to 86°F).

July and August are the warmest months during which the temperature can reach up to 40°C (104°F) mid day.

However, this is very rare. During September, the weather and temperature is similar as in June.

Although the summers are usually dry, there are some years when it rains every couple of days. However, in cases such as these, the rain comes suddenly and stops abruptly.

During this time of year, temperature is mostly between 12 °C and 24°C (53°F to 75°F) with occasional rain. Although the sea usually isn't warm enough for swimming at this time of year,

if you're from Russia, Scandinavia or Canada, you will most likely find it warm enough.

That being said, most places such as National Parks and islands you have just for yourselves since there aren't that many tourists.
